The Association of Latin American Sugar Producers, UNALA, represents the sugar agribusiness in 13 countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama and Peru) in the region with a mission that allows the Latin American sugar agro-industry to operate under fair international conditions, in a competitive market while remaining committed with sustainability.
According to data reported by UNALA members, published in the ISO Sugar Yearbook 2023 and the ISO Ethanol Yearbook 2023, our members produce approximately 30% of the world’s sugar and approximately 30% of the world’s ethanol. In addition to generating more than 6.5 million jobs, some of our members also co-generate renewable electricity from sugarcane biomass, which is key to promoting sustainable development in Latin America.
